dirt road anthem

lately i've been considering that i stop trying
i wonder exactly what the harm is in dying...we all do it anyway
and i don't know why i take each step that i take?
it never seems to lead to anywhere
every newsflash is a just a new old tale of despair.

and i wonder where am i really trying to go?
why do i always have to keep walking?
why can't i sit and chill
with my friends and beer in hand just sit right here?

everyone seems to think we all need to move forward
but sometimes i just want to stop and lie down
in one of these potholes on this road
right after it rains and hope that i drown.
not sure i'm interested in winning this rat race
you can't get ahead if you want to stay in the same place,
for you to get on top someones gotta be down.

i just don't know that i think it's worth it
always walking yet never knowing the purpose.
and somehow i get the feeling that at the end of the trail
the old woman from hansel and gretel will be waiting with scales.
